Our Programs

The Challenge:

Young people are leaving schools ill prepared for the workforce. Undereducated and jobless young people typically become disconnected from society's mainstream.  In the United States, 50% of minority students do not gradute from High Schools and there are dropout rates as high as 70% in some major cities. This translates to over 20-million children who will leave school and not complete their education. Statistics show us that dropouts account for 70% of our prison population, are more likely to be unemployed, in poor health, on public assistance and a single parent. Further, they are less likely to vote, become involved in community service, volunteer and engage as an active citizen.

In 1960, the U.S. was ranked first in percentage of high school graduates. Currently, we rank 13th in the world. South Korea, once ranked 27th, is now number one. (Galama and Hosek)

  • Every 29 seconds, another student drops out of school.
  • 7,000 students drop out of school every day.
  • 1.2 million leave school over the course of a year.
  • Nearly one-third of public high school students fail to graduate.
  • Nearly half of African-Americans, Native Americans, and Hispanics fail to graduate high school.

These discouraging statistics tell only part of the story. Our failure to provide a strong educational base for millions of children has tremendous repercussions for them and their families, their communities, and for our nations as a whole.

The most pernicious effects of the dropout crisis are those that directly affect the students who have already dropped out. Over the short term, dropouts suffer disproportionately from a host of social ills. Pick a social problem, and you’ll find that dropouts are more likely to be affected.

In developing nations, most underpriviledged youth don’t even make it to high school, let alone graduate. The gravity and implications of this problem is so serious that the federal government have enacted initiatives to fund programs that explore remedies to these trends resulting positively to the well-being of our nations.

GlobeXchange Internship

For both high school and college students, the GlobeXchange provides international internship experiences of varying lengths of time with a socially responsible organization in the United States that mentors a young person interested in career development, business experience or community service, and a home stay with a local family.

Since 2004, CGF has provided opportunities for students from around the world to live and gain practical business and leadership experience in the United States and abroad. We believe that the personal relationships developed during the exchange year are one of the best ways to develop understanding and respect across cultures.

Social Enterprise / Entrepreneurship Development (SEED) Capital Fund

The Casimiro Global Foundation believes that microenterprises add value to a country's economy by creating jobs, enhancing income, strengthening purchasing power, lowering costs and adding business convenience. Because microenterprises typically have little to no access to commercial banking, particularly in developing nations, they often rely on "micro-loans" or micro-credit in order to meet their start-up needs.
